We also know that it’s essential to keep all clients up to date on changes in processing with our integrated partners.
Rentec Direct’s integration with RentReporters helps tenants turn what may be their most significant monthly expense into a credit builder. In fact, a recent report from Realtor.com indicates that renters earning a typical household income are dedicating at least 23.4% of their total income just to rent. The ablity to use that expense to build credit is significant.
Landlords and property managers can offer tenants the option to report positive rent payments to enhance their Resident Benefit Package with Rentec Direct and proactively ensure compliance with evolving reporting laws.

What’s New With Rentec Direct and RentReporter in 2026
RentReporters’ credit-building opportunity will still be available to all renters in Rentec Direct.
RentReporters is evolving to simplify the reporting process further:
- Automatic Late Payment Reporting: Starting in 2026, RentReporters will automatically report late rent payments.
- Reduced Administrative Burden: Previously, RentReporter would reach out to landlords and/or renters to verify late rent payments. Starting in 2026, RentReporters automatically reports late rent payments with a documented payment date.
- Credit Bureau Changes (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian):
- On-time rent payments will continue to be submitted to all three credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian),
- Late rent payments will automatically be reported to TransUnion and Equifax only.

Landlord Compliance: Rent Reporting to Meet New California State Laws
The integration of RentReporters provides a critical tool for landlords and property managers to comply with evolving legal requirements. One example is a recent law enacted in California (AB-2747) that requires landlords to offer new tenants and existing tenants at each lease renewal the option to report positive rent payments.
In the future, other states may also adopt similar requirements. All housing providers can get ahead of potential requirements by proactively including the option to report rent payments in their benefits for all tenants.

How You Can Begin Offering Rent Reporting to Your Tenants
RentReporters is automatically available in all Rentec Direct Pro and PM accounts, so no additional setup is required. Also, tenants can enroll in RentReporters in the tenant portal by default and cancel at any time.
With an active tenant portal, tenants can easily access the enrollment link with RentReporters in two quick steps by using the Resident Connect mobile app or the Rentec Direct Tenant Portal link:
- Log in to their Tenant Portal
- Click on More Info on the Summary Page of their Tenant Portal
Once tenants have signed up, Rentec Direct will automatically share up to two years of past rent payment history and keep reporting future payments for RentReporters to share with all three credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
