Recently there’s been an uptick of unsavory individuals posting fraudulent property listings on our service as well as other services such as Zillow, Trulia, etc. These individuals post fake rental listings in hopes to tempt unsuspecting renters into applying and paying them money to reserve the property. Unfortunately, many renters are so eager to get into a property that many of them fall for the scam. To help combat this behavior Rentec is instituting some new rules to prevent abuse. We will no longer automatically allow unverified users to post advertisements via Rentec to third-party sites via our rental listing syndication service. In most cases we can automatically verify the information of new subscribers; however, if we are unable to do so you will see a notice on the marketing page linking you to this article.

If you’ve received such a notice, to verify your account, we simply ask that you fax or email us a copy of your photo ID, plus any of the following:

  • A copy of a utility bill for the address you are attempting to list
  • A copy of a mortgage statement showing the address
  • A copy of a property tax bill showing the address
  • A copy of a management agreement showing the address

Send both documents by fax to 888-882-1062 or email to docs@rentecdirect.com.

If you need help with this process, please contact our staff at 800-881-5139.
