There are benefits and downsides to each side of the rent vs. buy debate. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a look at some of the pros and cons, including costs, customization, and responsibilities, of renting or buying a home so you can make an informed decision. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monthly Cost<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Rent<\/strong><b>:<\/b><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> $1,250\/month rent payment. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Based on the median <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apartmentlist.com\/rentonomics\/national-rent-data\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rental price for a 2-bedroom in 2016 according to Apartmentlist.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Buy: <\/b><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$1,333 monthly mortgage payment. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Based \u00a0for a $250,000 home according to the Zillow Mortgage calculator for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/trends\/whats-an-average-home-in-2016\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">median purchase price for homes in 2016 according to Realtor.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upfront Costs<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Rent:<\/strong> <em>$3,750 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(First and last month\u2019s rent + $1,250 security deposit)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renters have the potential to receive their security deposit back only if their is no property damage or cleaning required at move-out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Buy:<\/strong> <em>$25,000 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(10% down payment for a $250,000 house)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The upfront costs involved with owning a home go directly towards paying off your loan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stability<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Rent<\/strong>: <em>Variable<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monthly costs are variable if a landlord decides to raise the rent. Renovations, painting, and property upgrades are typically violate lease terms. Renters are required to ask landlords or property managers before doing anything.
