{"id":1682,"date":"2013-11-24T23:37:50","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T07:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/?p=1682"},"modified":"2016-12-27T15:27:14","modified_gmt":"2016-12-27T23:27:14","slug":"major-system-update-improved-ledgers-new-forms-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/major-system-update-improved-ledgers-new-forms-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Major System Update &#8211; Improved Ledgers, New Forms, More!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1685\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/new_ledgers.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1685\" class=\" wp-image-1685    \" title=\"New Ledger Design\" alt=\"New Ledger Design\" src=\"\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/new_ledgers-600x399.png\" width=\"277\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Ledger Design (click for full size)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We&#8217;ve got some very exciting news to share! \u00a0We&#8217;ve rolled out our 4th quarter update which includes a ton of usability improvements. \u00a0The list of improvements is pretty massive.. where to start!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New Improved Ledgers &#8211;<\/strong> All system ledgers now include more data and are better formatted into a familiar accounting grid. \u00a0We&#8217;ve added check numbers and organized the layout so everything is much easier to find and read.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Searchable Ledgers &#8211;<\/strong> Along with the new ledger design comes a new search feature too. \u00a0In the top-left of the ledger you can enter anything into the filter box and the ledger will be filtered to match your criteria.<br \/>\n<em>Pro Tip: \u00a0The filter box inherits your cursor from the moment the page loads, you don&#8217;t even have to click it. \u00a0Just open the ledger and start typing to filter the results. \u00a0We&#8217;ve also added this instant filter feature to the property, tenant, bank, and owner lists.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>New Transaction Forms &#8211;<\/strong> We&#8217;ve refreshed all the transaction forms with some modern technology. \u00a0All fields that contain data (drop down list boxes) are now searchable too. \u00a0Click in any of these fields and start typing, the system will narrow the results so you don&#8217;t have to scroll any more! \u00a0Also, no more negative values &#8211; when editing existing transactions you can enter your values as all positive numbers, and just select the new [credit] or [debit] flag to indicate what type of transaction it is.<br \/>\nNote: The owner select box (previously in the upper right in the accounts box) is no longer necessary so we&#8217;ve removed it. \u00a0When assigning a transaction to a property owner, just select the owner in the Payee box. \u00a0The system intelligently catalogs it based on the owner or vendor selected.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automatic Category Selection &#8211;<\/strong> When you enter a new vendor, you can select their default category. \u00a0When entering future transactions, select the vendor for the payee and the system will automatically set the category. \u00a0This holds true on the new <a title=\"Bank Synchronization Support\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/bank-synchronization-support\/\">bank synchronization feature<\/a> too. \u00a0 Huge time saver!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automatic Payee Collection &#8211;<\/strong> In your email program, have you ever sent somebody an email, then later sent that same person another email and when you type the first couple characters of their email address your system automatically knows the rest? \u00a0We&#8217;ve just done this with your payees. \u00a0Whenever you are posting an expense and you add a new payee, the system will &#8220;collect&#8221; this information (payee name, address, and category) and save that payee information to your payees collection (Settings, Manage Vendors &amp; Payees). \u00a0Next time you enter an expense for the same payee, the system will pre-fill in the details after you enter thei first couple characters of their name. \u00a0Another time saving feature.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Graphical Improvements &#8211;<\/strong> You&#8217;ll notice new quick action graphics at the top of all the ledgers. \u00a0This is the new button format you&#8217;ll see rolling out into other areas of the site over the coming months too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Download to Excel\/CSV &#8211;<\/strong> All the new data shown on the ledgers now can be downloaded into Excel as well. \u00a0At the bottom of every ledger is a &#8220;download this data&#8221; link. \u00a0Click that to download the contents of the ledger to your computer. \u00a0CSV files are compatible with Excel and every other spreadsheet application.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automatic Bank Sync &#8211;<\/strong> This feature was intended to roll out with the rest of the Q4 improvements, but we actually jumped the gun and rolled it out a couple weeks ago. \u00a0You can now use &#8220;direct connect&#8221; to connect Rentec to your bank account to automatically download and match transactions. \u00a0(<a title=\"Bank Synchronization Support\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/bank-synchronization-support\/\">read more<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Back-end\u00a0Updates &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0A number of updates behind the scenes which will pave the way for some pretty cool stuff we have planned for the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We absolutely LOVE improving the system, especially when those improvements save you time using the system. \u00a0We&#8217;re optimistic that these features might have the biggest impact yet across the board saving you time and money. \u00a0We&#8217;re also very careful to not change things too much and we acknowledge some of these changes are pretty big, most notably the transaction form updates. \u00a0If you prefer to continue using the old transaction forms, or have any challenges with the new ones, you can switch back to the old forms very easily. \u00a0Just click the\u00a0<em><strong>(click here to use the old entry forms)<\/strong><\/em> link at the top of any form. \u00a0You&#8217;ll instantly be transported back in time to the previous version of the forms which you can use freely, and switch back and forth any time.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or comments, please reply to this blog post or email us at <a href=\"mailto:support@rentecdirect.com\">support@rentecdirect.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve got some very exciting news to share! \u00a0We&#8217;ve rolled out our 4th quarter update which includes a ton of usability improvements. \u00a0The list of improvements is pretty massive.. where to start!
