{"id":12313,"date":"2020-01-23T11:29:13","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T19:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/?p=12313"},"modified":"2022-06-13T16:56:44","modified_gmt":"2022-06-13T23:56:44","slug":"tenant-screening-report-expiration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/tenant-screening-report-expiration\/","title":{"rendered":"Product Update: New Tenant Screening Expiration Dates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Product-Update_-Tenant-Screening-Reports-will-Expire-After-90-Days-1.png\" alt=\"Tenant Screening Expiration Dates\" width=\"950\" height=\"558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Product-Update_-Tenant-Screening-Reports-will-Expire-After-90-Days-1.png 950w, https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Product-Update_-Tenant-Screening-Reports-will-Expire-After-90-Days-1-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Product-Update_-Tenant-Screening-Reports-will-Expire-After-90-Days-1-768x451.png 768w, https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Product-Update_-Tenant-Screening-Reports-will-Expire-After-90-Days-1-600x352.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/>On March 1st, 2020 you will see an update to the tenant screening system to automatically expire all reports 90 days old or older in your property management software account.\u00a0 This new update helps you stay compliant with the Federal Trade Commission&#8217;s regulations on consumer reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, all credit reports expire after 90 days, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/income-verification\/\">new income verification reports<\/a> expire after 14 days.\u00a0 Some other reports that previously were not classified under specific FCRA rules had no expiration date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are implementing an expiration date on all reports in an effort to ensure that we, and all of our clients, are following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/tips-advice\/business-center\/guidance\/using-consumer-reports-what-landlords-need-know\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">procedures outlined by the FTC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for data retention of consumer reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12318 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-tenant-screening-quote.png\" alt=\"tenant screening report expiration\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-tenant-screening-quote.png 600w, https:\/\/www.rentecdirect.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-tenant-screening-quote-300x100.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Effective March 1st, 2020 the default expiration for reports will be 90 days.<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TransUnion credit reports will expire after 90 days, no change.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Income verification reports will expire after 14 days, no change.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEW &#8211; Eviction and Criminal reports will expire after 90 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEW &#8211; Other miscellaneous tenant screening reports will expire after 90 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do need to retain a report for longer than it&#8217;s active period, you will want to download the report onto your computer and\/or print it out and store it safely.\u00a0 Keep in mind, printed reports are also supposed to be disposed of when no longer necessary.
