New Search Feature

March 13th, 2011 No comments

We’ve added some great new search tools to Rentec Direct to help you quickly navigate the interface.  At the top of the Tenants and Properties tabs you’ll now find a Search bar.  Begin typing into the bar and the system will automatically narrow down the list of tenants or properties based on your search.  It’s a huge timesaver.

Try these timesaving tips:

  1. Posting rent for a tenant?  Click the tenants tab, type in the first few letters of their first or last name and the interface will immediately narrow down the list to just those that match.  Now just click the green dollar sign to post the payment.
  2. Posting an expense to a property?  Click the properties tab, type in any part of the address to narrow down the list to just that property and post the expense by clicking the red dollar sign.

We would also like to at this time share a tip with our users.  Since Rentec Direct uses some of the latest, greatest, web technologies such as video and AJAX; we have found, and so many of our users have confirmed, that both Firefox and Chrome web browsers work much better than Internet Explorer and both are completely free.  Click the links to go directly to their home pages.  Firefox is quickly becoming one of the world’s most popular browsers and is both very fast and very safe.  Chrome is created by Google and is blazing fast.  You also get some great modern features in these browsers that Internet Explorer doesn’t offer.  One for instance is the automatic highlighting of your search terms when searching.

Internet Explorer Issue with Large Ledgers

September 29th, 2010 1 comment

It’s come to our attention that when your ledgers start getting large (thousands of entries) that IE (Internet Explorer) begins to really have performance problems.  We have confirmed our HTML code is compliant with HTML standards, so this is a problem with how IE handles more complicated web sites that include AJAX and Javascript such as Rentec Direct. As is demonstrated by a search for “ie sluggish” on Google and the 1.2 million results it receives, many users have similar trouble with Internet Explorer all across the web.

We have confirmed however, that other popular web browsers do not have this issue.  Until either IE solves their performance issue, or we are able to find a work-around, we are recommending users who frequently review large ledgers use one of the following popular web browsers.

firefox Firefox from the Mozilla corporation is quickly becoming the most popular browser in the world.  It meets standards better than Internet Explorer, is faster, and we have confirmed it works extremely well with Rentec Direct, even with very large ledgers.

chromeGoogle has released Google Chrome as a competitor to the web browser market that is also significantly faster and more compliant than Internet Explorer.  Google Chrome is also confirmed to work well with Rentec Direct and large ledgers.

Once you download and install either of these web browsers, simply navigate to http://www.rentecdirect.com, and login like normal.

Looking For a Faster Web Experience?

May 26th, 2010 1 comment

Here at Rentec Direct we’re always testing out the capabilities of web browsers.  Our application makes use of some of the latest web technologies so it is important that browsers perform to make sure users’ experience is not just good, but great!

firefoxFor a very long time the best combination of performance and security has come from Firefox.  Firefox is an open source application which has the most community support behind it for a web browser.  Because of the ample community support, and excellent programmers, Firefox leads the way still in performance and security.

Google Chrome just yesterday released version 5 of their new browser.  We’ve been using and testing with Chrome since version 3 and it has come a long way.  Chrome takechromes the cake in performance, even over Firefox.  Google Chrome 5 can rightfully claim the title as the fastest browser in the world, at least for now.  In our testing, Chrome 5 is noticeably faster all around the web.  It has native Flash support to give you the full web without installing any plugins and works very well with all websites we’ve tested it with, including Rentec’s BackOffice which makes use of many new web technologies.  Of note, with Chrome version 5, they now support plugins including some one of our “must have” favorites: Xmarks.

Other popular browsers include Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) and Apple’s Safari browsers.  Neither has the performance and security that Firefox and Chrome have and while Rentec Direct is fully compatible with both, we recommend using one of the above.

If you are looking to speed up your web experience, try out the new Chrome, or if you are currently using IE try them both and see which fits your style best.  You will find your internet experience will improve significantly when you release that old slow browser.
